Google Lens was built into Google Pixel phones in late 2017, then expanded to all Android phones in March of this year.
On March 16, this application was also available on iOS devices.
Recently, Google announced a few feature updates to Google Lens that make it even more usable. At I/O 2018, Google said that Lens is now integrated in the camera apps on phones from 10 manufacturers: LG, Motorola, Xiaomi, Sony, Nokia, Transsion, TCL, OnePlus, BQ, and Asus.
Accordingly, when you open the camera app on one of these devices, you can point the camera at an object and find similar products.
For example, if you see a dress you like, you can use Google Lens to ask it to "guide" you to a similar dress or the dress itself. In some cases, you can buy it directly through Google Shopping.
There's also the Smart Text Selection tool, which lets you point your phone's camera at a block of text, which you can then copy, translate, or pass it on to others.
With all those conveniences, it's not surprising that more and more people want to use Google's Lens app.
However, it is still important to note that, even if Google Lens has become a standalone application, not all Android devices will be compatible with it. For example, it is compatible with Samsung Note 8 but it does not work with Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus.
In addition, Google Lens will also not work with Moto Z Play, Nokia 7 Plus and Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphones. Your phone must be running Android Marshmallow or later to be able to use Google Lens.
