An 11-year-old girl was abducted by a stranger outside a supermarket in the US, then was rescued by police thanks to the iPad she brought with her.
The incident happened when the 11-year-old girl was cycling alone to visit her sister in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania). On the way, she stopped at a roadside gas station to rest.
The girl left her bicycle at the gas station and walked to a nearby supermarket to buy things, without realizing she had become the target of a strange man.
The image captured by the security camera shows the man approaching the girl. The two talked for about 20 minutes, then the girl followed the man into the car and left, leaving the bike at the gas station.

The girl's older sister was very worried when she did not see her brother at the house as scheduled. She informed the police about her sister's disappearance. Police conducted a search and found the bicycle she left at the gas station.
The victim's family said that when she went missing, she had her iPad with her. The police used the search app "Find My" and luckily discovered that the girl's iPad was still working. Based on the location information of the iPad provided by the application, the police found an apartment in the town of South Greensburg (Pennsylvania).
The police force searched the apartment and discovered the girl was inside. This home is owned by Keith Lillyock, 43 years old.
Reporting to the police, the girl said Lillyock approached and talked to her at the gas station. The man then said he would give her a ride in a car to her sister's house, but instead of taking her to her sister's house, Lillock drove her to his own house.
The victim said that after being forced into the house, Lillyock touched his thighs and stomach. However, Lillyock denied the allegation and said she only wanted to drive the girl to her sister's house when she saw that she was riding her bike alone.
Currently, Lillyock is being held pending trial and has been denied bail. Lillyock is facing charges of sedition, kidnapping and child abuse. If convicted, Lillock will face a heavy prison sentence.
The victim's family declined to comment, but said they felt lucky that the girl had brought the iPad with her.
How does the “Find My” search app work?
“Find My” is an application introduced by Apple in 2019 to replace the previous “Find my iPhone” application. This application was developed by Apple to help users locate lost or stolen Apple devices, from iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods or MacBook ...
When Apple devices are connected to the Internet, the application will immediately determine the current location of the device through GPS positioning to send it to the user's iCloud account, thereby allowing users to determine the device's current location. The device's near-exact location helps to find lost or stolen devices.
In addition to the ability to locate, this feature also allows users to delete data on the device to avoid the case that important, private data gets into the wrong hands.
