Security experts at Pradeo have just discovered two malicious applications on the Android platform. These two software are named “File Recovery and Data Recovery” and “File Manager”.
According to information from the CH Play app store, both these malware come from the same developer. In the description, the developer claims not to collect any data from users.
However, the page Bleeping Computer said that these two malicious applications silently stole a wide range of user data, including device information, contacts, email accounts, real-time location, image, audio and video files.
Not stopping there, they also automatically send the above data to a server in China. In addition, these two apps have auto-hide from the home screen, making it harder to find and remove them from the phone.
After the above information was published, Google removed these 2 malware from the CH Play app store. Before being removed, they had attracted more than 1.5 million downloads.
